When choosing my master's program I wanted a program based in education, with an emphasis on coaching and sport leadership. Most of my coursework pertained to those two concentrations, and the work below is a showcase of the activities and learning that has taken place in my program. Unlike some of the other programs, the sport leadership and coaching concentrations focus on using our own teams as the basis for academic projects and papers. For this reason, my showcase will be very specific to my life and experiences.

Coaching

Sport Leadership

As a part of one of my coaching courses, I was asked to review what I feel is important as a coach, and use that to develop a philosophy for coaching. Since creating this philosophy it has helped me in my daily coaching.

Hazing is a hot issue in athletics today, and as a part of one unit I was tasked with creating an anti-hazing message that could be placed in student hand books, and inspire school anti-hazing initiatives.

For this document I was tasked with defining what I beleive the roll of a coach to be. In the document you will be able to see what I think the role of every coach should be.

The facility checklist is intended to remind school athletic administrators of the monthly needs of their athletic facilities. It is also intended to reduce the risk that the school is exposed to.

The lacrosse curriculum is intended to provide a breakdown of the skills needed to develop an offensive lacrosse player,  and what sub-skills are needed to develope that player.

The sports book review is intended to look at a coaching book from the lense of a coach and finding principles that can be applied to any sport not just the sport discussed within the book.

The try-out flyer is intended to reduce the liability and risk of a coach while also informing the players and families of those players.

The icebreaker activity is intended to showcase an example of how to create a sense of team within a school sports team.
